MMS's
Hosted POS Service Stands Up to Hurricane Juan
October 3, 2003, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
At 6AM the day after touch down of Hurricane Juan all that could be heard
in Burnside Industrial Park was the hum of the MMS Caterpillar back-up generator.
While the MMS office lost power for 14 hours, the server room kept running
without a second of interruption. The MMS server room features uninterruptible
power supplies (UPS), redundant high speed Internet connections, and climate
control. As well, a back-up generator automatically starts when it detects
a power outage.
"Our disaster recovery plan was put to the test on September 29th with the
one of the worst hurricanes in Halifax history. All systems switched to back-up
power at 12:09AM on Monday morning with 100% uptime for our over 15,000 MMS
users from Newfoundland to Hawaii," said Graham Bakeeff MMS's Technical Manager.
MMS has invested well over $100,000 during the past two-years to develop its
Hosted POS service. The Hosted POS service allows companies to cost-effectively
rent the MMS software over the Internet. For more information on this service,
